Oenothera glazioviana 黃花月見草

Common name: Large-flowered Evening-primose
Scientific name: Oenothera glazioviana 黃花月見草
Genus: Oenothera 月見草屬
Family: Onagraceae 柳葉菜科, willowherb or evening primrose family

Origin: Neophyte (established after 1500 AD). It is a native of N. America. It was first cultivated in Britain in about 1858, and recorded from the wild in 1866. It has spread and consolidated its range since the 1962 Atlas.

Date: 16th July


A tall plant, can up to 180 cm.

Green parts of stem with long hairs that have red bulbous bases whereas Oenothera stricta 線葉月見草, 條紋月見草, the Fragrant Evening-primose,  green parts of stem with long hairs without red bulbous bases although the sepals are red-striped, too.


Flower large, petals 30-50 mm, style longer than stamens wherese the flowers of Oenothera x fallax, the Intermediate Evening-primose, are smaller, petals 20-30 mm, style same length as stamens.
