A prostrate to erect plant.


Stem is 4-angled, smooth and glabrous, leaves are linear-lanceolate and sessile. (vs stem is 4-angled, rough and hairy (at least at the upper part of the stem) in S. holostea 硬骨繁縷, 硬骨草繁縷, 大繁縷, greater stitchwort.)

Flowers 5-12 mm diameter, petals as long as or longer than sepals, divided almost to base, 10 stamens. (vs petals notched to about halfway to base in  S. holostea 硬骨繁縷, 硬骨草繁縷, 大繁縷, greater stitchwort.)
