Veronica persica 阿拉伯婆婆納

Common name:  Common Field-speedwell
Scientific name: Veronica persica 阿拉伯婆婆納*
Genus: Veronica 婆婆納屬
Family: Plantaginaceae 車前草科, 車前科, plantain family

Origin: Neophyte (established after 1500AD). Probably native to mountains of the Caucasus & N. Iran, where it may have originated by the hybridisation of  V. ceratocarpa 角果婆婆納 and V. polita 婆婆納. Is was first recorded in the wild in 1826.

Remarks*: Veronica was formerly classified in the family Scrophulariaceae 玄參科, figwort family. This species could also be found in HK as an endemic species. 


Date: 1st July (& 1st April at another location)


A branched, decumbent, pubescent annual plant, can reach up to 40 cm.


Flowers solitary, axillary. Pedicels are longer than leaves. (vs pedicels are shorter in V. agrestis, green field-speedwell) (1st April)
