Cirsium arvense 絲路薊, 田薊, 加拿大薊

Common name: Creeping Thistle
Scientific name: Cirsium arvense 絲路薊, 田薊, 加拿大薊
Genus: Cirsium 薊屬
Family: Asteraceae or Compositae 菊科, aster , daisy, composite or sunflower family

Origin: native

Date: 26th July


An erect, branched, rhizomatous perennial, can reach up to 120 cm.



Stem is not winged.




Leaf lobes with strong spinesleaf upper surface glabrous (not bristly, surface often shining).

Flowering heads are solitary or in clusters of 2-4.


Flower buds.



Flowering head 1.5 - 2.5 cm, short-stalked.


Florets dull purple; upper part of corolla is divided almost to base into 5 segments.

Brown anthers? filaments? could be seen at the base of the anther tube in the above floret. 


Styles are emerging from the white anther tubes.
