Veronica anagalis-aquatica 北水苦蕒

Common name: Blue Water-speedwell
Scientific name: Veronica anagalis-aquatica 北水苦蕒
Genus: Veronica 婆婆納屬*
Family: Plantaginaceae 車前科, plantain family

Remarks*: Veronica was formerly classified in the family Scrophulariaceae 玄參科, figwort family. This species could also be found in HK as an endemic species.

Origin: native

Date: 12th June

A creeping, ascending, glabrous annual, can reach up to 30 cm.

An individual of typical height.

These nearby plants are much higher, nearly 1 m tall. 

Leaves are sessile, 5-12 cm and ovate-lanceolate.

Opposite leaves.

Stems are leaves are glabrous. Leaves are sessile. (vs leaves are stalked in Veronica beccabunga 有柄水苦蕒, brooklime)193 

A pair of racemes arising from each pair of leaves. (vs a single raceme arising from each pair of leaves in Veronica scutellata, marsh speedwell)194

10-50-flowered racemes.

Corolla is 5-6 mm across and is pale blue. (vs corolla is pink blue in Veronica catenata, pink water-speedwell.)

4 petals with the lowest one the smallest. 2 stamens and 1 style.
