Scientific name: Rhododendron ponticum 黑海杜鵑
Genus: Rhododendron 杜鵑花屬
Family: Ericaceae 杜鵑花科, heath or heather family
Origin: Neotype (established after 1500 AD). It is a native of the Iberian peninsula and S. E. Europe, Lebanon, Turkey and the Caucasus. The pollen record shows that it was native to Ireland. It was introduced in 1763 and was known in the wild by at least 1894.
