Stems can reach up to 50 cm. 

2-3 leaves for each plant. No flowering shoots for these young plants.

Flowering shoot appears but not bloom yet.

The flowering shoot arises separately from the leaves above the ground.

Flower buds are covered by 2 bracts now.

The 2 bracts open a little bit and 1 flower had bloomed.

The umbel is composed of 6 to 20 flowers, without bulbils.

Remarks*:

Origin: Neophyte (established after 1500 AD). It is a native of the W. & C. Mediterranean region. It was introduced by 1759 and established by 1849.

Date: 27th May

There are 2-5 leaves for each individual plant.

Stem is sharply 3-angled (could not be seen in the above photo), and is up to 45 cm tall. (vs stem is smooth in Allium oleraceum 菜園葱, field garlic)

Leaves 5-17 mm wide. They are flat and are keeled beneath.

Flowers are dropping, in 3-15 flowered umbel, rather lax and 1-sided, without bulbils. There are originally 2 bracts, but had dropped for the above specimen. (vs flowers absent, or 1-few in umbels with small green bulbils in Allium paradoxum 鈴鐺葱, few-flowered garlic vs 5-40-flowered umbel, with few to many bulbils, or sometimes with bulbils only in Allium oleraceum 菜園葱, field garlic.)

6 tepals, 10-18mm long, white with longitudinal green stripe. Stamens not protruding.

There are 6 stamens originally, 3 of them had their anthers dropped in this flower. 1 style with 3 stigmas.

Remarks*:

Origin: Neophyte (established after 1500 AD). It is a European Southern-temperate species. It was known in cultivation in 1597 and was recorded in the wild since 1778.

Date: 7th & 9th March

A bulbous perennial, can reach up to 25 cm. A large cluster of snowdrops found on the verge of a woodland.

There are 2 leaves for each individual plant.

The following photos were taken on another location on 7th March. (whereas the above photos were taken on 9th March.)

Leaves are glaucous, linear and flat.

Flower is solitary, nodding; spathe of 2 fused bracts, deeply divided at tip.

Note the 3 inner tepals are much shorter and blunter than outer in Galanthus 雪滴花屬. (vs all tepals are similar in Leucojum 雪片蓮屬.)

Inner tepals emarginate, with green patch near incision.

Flowers white, up to 40 mm across.

Inner tepals with green stripes inside the tepals. 6 yellow stamens and 1 style.
