Potentilla sterilis 無子草莓

Common name: Barren Strawberry
Scientific name: Potentilla sterilis 無子草莓
Genus: Potentilla 委陵菜屬
Family: Rosaceae 薔薇科, rose family

Remarks: The genus name Potentilla means 'powerful, despite its small size' and is a reference to the claimed medicinal value of some plants in this genus. The species name sterilis indicates that this species does not produce (edible) fruits.

A pubescent, stoloniferous perennial, can reach up to 15 cm.

Oxalis acetosella 白花酢醬草

Common name: Wood-sorrel

Origin: native

Date:  10th April


A slender, rhizomatous perennial. All the leaves fold up and flowering stalks drop downwards now because of low light intensity.

One leave remained open. Leaves are trifoliate and pubescent.


There are five small green sepals for each flower.

Remarks: It is is listed as VU (vulnerable) 易危 according to IUCN Red List Categories.

A bulbous perennial, can reach up to 50 cm.


Most flowers are chequered dull pink and purple, but some are white.

A young plant. Flowers not yet opened.

An elder plant with flowers. It can reach up to 130 cm.
